'Smallville's' Rosenbaum Penning FOX Pilot

-- Zap2It

"Smallville" star Michael Rosenbaum maybe isn't as famous as Chris Rock, but he's hoping to follow in the comic's footsteps of using his teenage years as fodder for a TV series.

Rosenbaum, who plays Lex Luthor on The WB series, has teamed up with Greg Beeman, an executive producer of his current show, to write a pilot called "Welcome to Paradise." The comedy would follow a teenage boy whose family moves from New York to Indiana -- just as Rosenbaum did with his family in the 1980s.

"It's pretty much about how he gets through life. He's got this crazy mom who is a child at heart because she married early and never got to be a child," Rosenbaum tells The Hollywood Reporter.

The show, which has a script commitment from FOX, marks Rosenbaum's first attempt at writing for TV. The pilot grew out of his writings about his adolescence during breaks in filming "Smallville" -- "I was too cheap to get therapy," he jokes. After showing some of his work to Beeman, the two decided to collaborate on a script.

Rosenbaum will executive produce of the show, along with his onetime boss, former WB chief Jordan Levin. Pete Aronson, an exec producer on Rosenbaum's former show "Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane," and Mike Karz ("First Daughter") will also serve as executive producers.
